Cpt. Shore made some egregious errors on this tome.

The derating of trained Russian Sniper would have been a sure way to get ones head handed to him! The idea that the Russian wasn't well equipped
Is incorrect! The Germans started the war using captured Russian scoped rifles. And indeed delighted in learning to snipe with these rifles and captured Russian training films subtitled in German!

It was amazing that they did not have far more people killed ...

After reading this book I came away thinking that the British Army was run by a bunch of idiots. It was amazing that they did not have far more people killed than they did. Time after time Capt Shore writes about the stupid orders that were given by senior officers. Common sense was a uncommon trait in the officer corps. Capt. Shore led me to believe that the average soldier in his army was afraid of guns in general. This is what happens when the government does not trust it's people to own guns. Just let a world war start and see how unable the recruits are tasked to defend their country. Thank God and the second amendment for the American way of life ! I also noticed how Capt. Shore spent a lot of time ranting how a "target shooter " from Bisley does not make a good sniper. All I can say is thank God the Brits have Bisley and it's fantastic group of target shooters to draw from. Most average people don't know that the British have some of the worlds greatest target shooters ! Bisley is one of the Worlds greatest shooting ranges and breading grounds for the making of British snipers.

One of my favorites

Candidly I picked up this book after having read 3 other books on sniping during WWI and WW2. I half expected to be "worn out" on the subject. I was wrong. This book was thoroughly enjoyable and informative. If I could only read (or re-read) two books on sniping development during wartime, I would pick "A Rifleman Went to War" first, and this would be a very close second.

The Browser Hacker's Handbook review

As authors mention along the book, the web browser may be the most important piece of software currently. It dominates the client side in the server-client model.

This book covers the way how hackers and crackers attack the browser from a perspective of pretending to be a non-malicious web server sending valid communication to the web browser. The browser exploitation framework project (BeEF) is used to illustrate many of the practical attacks and techniques in the book.

The book is organized in 10 chapters based on the attacking method. They are: Web Browser Security, Initiating Control, Retaining Control, Bypassing the Same Origin Policy, Attacking Users, Attacking Browsers, Attacking Extensions, Attacking Plugins, Attacking Web Applications and Attacking Networks. The book closes with an epilogue exploring thoughts around the future of browser security.

One of the most interesting chapters in the book is the Web Browser Security section. It explores the micro-perimeter paradigm needed to defend organizations today, and examine some fallacies that continue to propagate insecure practices. Together with relevant browser concepts and core problems with browser security, it introduces the methodology used in the book. If you own some security background, I would say you can read chapters out of order but I would consider this first chapter as a must. It offers a great overview and context.

One of the strengths in this book is the level of detail with documentation, references and links. This material is updated.

In the weak side, this book is too long. I found this book lacking of rhythm along the most technical chapters but if you like the topics it won't be an issue.

In summary, I think this book is a good resource for pen-testers and offensive security practitioners. If offers an accurate vision of browsers security together with a methodology organizing the different and required offensive steps in a practical attack. With a possible second edition, I guess the authors should take in consideration a shorter book. I found this book a bit verbose but an interesting and useful resource.

If you're a web security practitioner, this is a book that you need to read. From the basics to advanced topics, the authors illustrate numerous techniques that are extremely useful while breaking (or building) web applications. Really recommended if you want to learn how to circumvent browser security controls.

Yes, it is about metals

Yes, it is a book about metals, that's absolutely right. If you are looking for a book about social history, or some other aspect of technological history then you should look elsewhere. On the other hand, if you'd like to know about the history of metals, a lot about it, then this is what you want. In other words, it is exactly what the title says, and it's the best.

Tylecote (1916-1991) was an engineering scientist who specialized in welding technology (a hot subject then -- and now for that matter). He was quite prominent and successful in the field.

He became interested in ancient metallurgy and the history of metallurgy in his late 20s. He did a lot of archaeology, excavating old metal-works, and wrote many articles. This book is essentially a summary of everything that had been learned up through the 1980s.

He starts in the Neolithic period and works his way up to 1950. The book is full of specifics, with detailed references. It is heavier on Europe and the Middle East than on Asia or Africa, simply because there has been a lot more archaeology in Europe and the Middle East. Most of the claims people make regarding Chinese metallurgy are based in literary sources that do not provide a lot of hard specifics of the kind Tylecote deals in. There are many photos and drawings to illustrate processes and objects.

I'm glad to see it back in print. It would be nice if someone were to update it to incorporate what has been learned in the past two decades, but I do not know who would do that. In the meantime this is the book if what you really want is a solid, factual history of metals.

Metals, and nothing but the metals

This book is a history of men's use of metals. The book begins with metals and ores used during the Neolithic, and proceeds down to a chapter on modern metalworking. In general, the author's focus is on the composition of the metals (i.e. other metals purposely or accidentally alloyed in), and on the techniques of smelting, etc. As such, this book discusses the metals themselves in depth, but contains very little information on the societies' development and use of them.

With the hundreds of books I poured through at the library. This one is a hand holding, step by step guide that shows you how to talk, (relate your accomplishments as a story -people remember stories-have hooks to the stories). It helps you realize how to "sell yourself through accomplishments", and ways to show how you will benefit the organization (which is after all why they are hiring). It also gives indepth advice on attitude and personality, avoiding negative questions and salary negotiations. Complete and concrete advice. -An investment in your future.

Excellent tool for job seeker

As for a new graduate, I blew out my first several interviews. People keep telling me it's normal and that's how you learn the expereince. When asking their advice, they said you can't predict the question they're going to ask you, so just relax and try your best. Well...that's only half true and not help me too much to get the job. I am glad that I stopped lying to myself, finding excuses not to prepare interviews and bought this book. I bought five interview reference books and this is the best one among all. It helps you build up your confidence and really let you feel you're going to A's all the questions during the interview, which is true. It's the tool that helps you not only prepare the interview but also negotiate salary. (plus research organization) I followed all the steps and got the offer right away. (Amazing! too soon to believe) And also increased 3,000 more on my starting salary. (I know I can gain more according to the instruction in the book, but I am satisfied with the result since this is my first job.) This is the first time I write review for a book. To express the appreciation to the author, I do recommend all the job seeker, no matter you are new graduate or expereinced, to read this book. The book covers all aspects. Good luck!! (This is also important. =))
