About the Author
Peter A. Stanwick is an associate professor in the Department of Management at Auburn University. His research has been published in various journals, including The Journal of Business Ethics, Management Decision, The Journal of Corporate Citizenship, The Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, Business Strategy and the Environment, Eco-Management and Auditing, and American Business Review. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Business Ethics. He was invited to present papers in 2004 and 2011 at Oxford University. Dr. Stanwick has received two grants from the Daniel F. Breeden Endowments for Faculty Enhancement and a Pursell Ethics Grant. In 1995, Dr. Stanwick received the Graduate Faculty Member Award for Excellence by the Association of Graduate Business Students at Auburn University. Dr. Stanwick teaches strategic management and business ethics at the undergraduate and graduate level, as well as international management at the undergraduate level.

Sarah D. Stanwick is an associate professor in the School of Accountancy at Auburn University. Her research has been published in various journals, including the Journal of Business Ethics, Advances in Accounting, The Accounting Educators' Journal, The Journal of Corporate Accounting and Finance, and The Journal of Corporate Citizenship. She has received two Daniel F. Breeden Endowments for Faculty Enhancement, a Pursell Ethics Grant, and a grant from the World Resources Institute to write an instructional case on the pulp and paper industry in Alabama. She has taught financial and managerial/cost accounting at the undergraduate and graduate levels and accounting ethics at the graduate level. Her research interests include the areas of environmental accounting, ethical issues for managers and accountants, and social responsibility issues. She is the advisor for the Auburn University chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma (the international honor society for achievement in the study of business).

UNDERSTANDING ETHICS - GREAT BOOKS, FULL OF REAL LIFE EXAMPLES

The book arrived on time and was very good!! I purchased the book for class and it is a great resource for those who have questions about Ethics in the workplace. The book provides real-life examples and outcomes of the cases. I enjoyed the book and continue to use it even thought the class is completed.

About the Author
Erica S. Kim is a published author and dynamic speaker. She served as a missionary for almost 20 years on three different continents and speaks to many audiences about her life experiences, marriage, parenting, and grace. She is an elder’s wife and women’s ministry leader, counseling marriages and families. Erica has also written, “Open My Eyes Lord.” Erica has been married for 30 years and has three grown daughters.

This Ungracious World

On February 8, 1988 while living in San Francisco, I received a phone call from my father, who was living in New Jersey at the time. “Your mother killed herself. I found her dead today,” he said in almost a whisper. As soon as he finished his sentence, I crumpled to the kitchen floor. I wailed so loudly that my 15-month-old baby, Miyoko, who had been playing in her room, came running and began to stroke my head as if I was the baby, and not her. Cradling the phone that was attached to the wall, my body heaved as I wept and wept. After a few minutes passed, my father said, “Come home.” What came out of my mouth following his words surprised me. “It’s your fault,” I replied while weeping. “Did you hear me? You did this to her.” The phone clicked as my father hung up.

In my grief and pain, I blamed my father. I was alone with my daughter and held her as I continued to cry for another hour before picking up the phone to leave a message for my husband who had flown to Japan early that morning. My mind raced in different directions. I was four months pregnant with our second child and had been frantically trying to contact my mother all day, since I had begun to spot that morning. My mother was a nurse, so I wanted her advice. The next day, in spite of being in a fog of grief, I made an emergency appointment to see my obstetrician. During my appointment, the doctor told me that if I got on a plane, I would probably lose the baby. I didn’t care anymore. I wanted to go home.

Many of us have experienced tragedy, abuse, and different forms of suffering, often in ways that are unique to us as women. God looks at each of us and knows our pain and feels each one of those scars. Even though we are Christians, when faced with crisis, our first response is too often not one of grace but rather a desire to lash out and blame others. Other times, we run away, withdrawing from even those who love us most. It is during these kinds of times that we see how much grace we lack in our lives and how much more we need to understand it, both for ourselves and towards others.

Jesus never lashed out from the cross. He endured a deep agony that we may never have to undergo during our lifetime just so we would not have to suffer eternally. It is through his life and attitude that we are taught how to respond in the most difficult times. Even though my general nature is to be easily forgiving towards others, I was not prepared for my response in times of grief. I saw that my faith and my heart were not strong enough to endure and to respond with the kind of grace that Jesus had shown me. I fell short with my father who was already torn up by his own feelings guilt. I reacted badly towards him and towards others during the hardest times in my life.

The reality is that we live in an ungracious world. For this reason, our upbringing and our past experiences have imprinted certain reactions and natural responses in each one of us. We often respond in ways that we have seen others do. It is said that most of us have lived with some type of dysfunctionality in our upbringing. Those memories can impact us more than God’s love.

I personally have been going through a very challenging time in my life and this book has really been helping me to have the faith to overcome the obstacles that are in front of me and to truly understand God's grace. He has designed and taught courses at a variety of institutions, including the University of California, The California State University, and local community colleges. A must have Book for getting started with Chef

Cloud Computing has grown incredibly in the last years, and having a powerful tool like Chef that automates configuration, provisioning and deployment has become a must.

Chef Essentials is targeted to both beginners and more experienced users and helps you to quickly get started with Chef.

It starts with the basic concepts in the first chapters and then delves into Chef internals explaining its architecture and how you can deal with recipes and how to develop and test your own recipes to achieve your goals.

One thing beginners will particularly appreciate are the examples on how to use Chef with two real and popular cloud providers, namely Amazon EC2 and Rackspace.

But perhaps the most interesting part is the chapter that teaches how to setup your application environment to automate its deployment on a cloud infrastructure like Amazon EC2.

The final part of the book explains some advanced topics like working with data bags and writing custom extensions.

To sum up, this is a nice book to read if you are interested in learning Chef and how to use it in real scenarios to automate your tasks in a cloud environment.

there will not be a great deal of hand holding in this area

You will benifit most from Chef Essentials if you already know Ruby. As it turns out, Chef is very Ruby centric, and there is not a lot John Ewart could do to get around this. Because the manuscript is written to assist those learning Chef, not Ruby particularly, there will not be a great deal of hand holding in this area. That is not to say Ewart does not do a good job explaining Ruby structures when needed. This is all that may be needed if you have some passing experience with any coding language. Rather, these explanations will be more intuitively grasped, and learning to implement Chef in a production environment will certainly be many times easier for those already experienced with the language.

Chef is certainly a tool I plan to return to, once I do find more free time. I plan to first freshen up on Ruby and RVM though, and I may dabble into Puppet for a bit of compare and contrast. I’m certainly more interested in this topic now, and once I get my install going, I’ll have some really good excercises to go through ;)

This book provides you with all the required processes and notions to create your own chef environment from scratch. Every step is detailed with a short explanation so you are never completely lost(there is a lot of ruby involved so if you never used the language, the book will look a little more complex).Keep in mind that most of the books code is on the author github but in multiple repos so you will have to jump around a bit to get all the required files for the demos. The perfect book for studying for the IBCLC exam

All of the books are helpful for different reasons. I took the practice exams over and over. I think that is probably what helped me the most when it was time for the exam because the practice exams are really similar to the type of questions asked. However, the practice exams point out where your weaknesses are, which is when I would go back to this book and drill myself on the bullet points. I didn't need to make flash cards, I found this book really easy to study from.

This book was by far the best book for studying. Each competency of the exam is covered by a chapter of information. While another reviewer liked Riordan's style, I found it impossible and too time consuming to read so much information. The style in this book is mostly bullet points. It is far better for studying. The amount of information in this exam requires boiling the information down to snipets, so you can remember it.

I would recommend having practice exams by different authors, each author has their own personal slant written into the questions. For example, one author is really big into natural childbirth, so the questions and pictures focus on complications because of drugs or positioning, which really weren't represented on the exam. Another author really likes cabbage leaves, but is not held up to evidence based practice. You have to be able to see some of their biases, but in the end that is how the test is made up, from multiple people, so studying from different viewpoints really helps.

Essential item for IBCLE exam, and general lactation practice

I purchased the previous edition of Core Curriculum while preparing for my initial IBCLC certification back in 2008. It was really the primary study tool I used, and I easily passed the exam. I kept that copy on standby in my office until I replaced it with the newest edition. I keep this handy in my office, and would encouraged it to anyone preparing for the IBCLE exam.

Written to recipients such as Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, Jack Kerouac, Timothy Leary, and Burroughs’ son, Billy Burroughs Jr., these letters shed new light on the writer’s controversial artistic process and literary experimentation, as well as his complex personal life. About the Author

Born in 1914 to a wealthy family in St. Louis, Missouri, William S. Burroughs was one of the most significant people in twentieth-century American popular culture and literature. A novelist, poet, and essayist, he was a primary member of the Beat Generation, influential upon such writers as Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg. Burroughs was the author of eighteen novels and novellas, six collections of short stories, and four collections of essays, among them the 1959 classic Naked Lunch. After living in Mexico City, Tangier, Paris, and London, Burroughs finally returned to America in 1974. He died at his home in Lawrence, Kansas, in 1997.

Bill Morgan is a writer and archival consultant. His previous books include The Typewriter Is Holy: The Complete, Uncensored History of the Beat Generation; I Celebrate Myself: The Somewhat Private Life of Allen Ginsberg; and Beat Atlas: A State by State Guide to the Beat Generation in America. He has edited several collections of letters by Beat writers such as Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, Gregory Corso, and Gary Snyder. Morgan has worked as the archivist of many writers, including Lawrence Ferlinghetti, Allen Ginsberg, Oliver Sacks, Michael McClure, Abbie Hoffman, and Arthur Miller. He currently lives with his wife in an old farmhouse at the base of a Vermont mountain.

Great book for serious followers

This is definitely lighter material than most of his novels, but if you have not embedded yourself in the Burroughsian universe, this book is not for you! Having said that, I love this book because of its simultaneous differences and similarities to Burroughs' formal literature.

Inside the Beatnik mind

The Beatnik generation. It produced some of the most well know authors and artists, it was also a time for sex and drugs. A chance to experiment with alternative lifestyles. One of the giants of the beatniks was William S. Burroughs, most famous for his book //Naked Lunch// and other works which repeatedly got banned in the United Kingdom and the United States. Now we get to go inside the mind of this famous author. For the first time his letters are being published, a volume covering his early years was published many years ago and this volume covers 1959-1974. Mr. Burroughs was a conflicted man, who constantly had troubles with publishers, friends and family. He was constantly broke and always searching for a way to make some money, so he could continue as a full time writer. Towards the end he felt it was all but impossible for a full time writer unless they had another job. His letters are interesting to read, inside his thinking process. His argument with publishers over money and more. He lived a different lifestyle and was often a target because of it, Mr. Burroughs might be remembered for his odd books. But he knew the craft.
