I have been a fan of the Dummies series for years and I recently started doing more SEO/ORM/ and online marketing for a start up I work for. I bought the book to help me understand more in depth about QR codes and how to best place/market them on materials we send out. To be honest the book is well written and gives you a great outline. The reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because you can find all this information online for free. I'm a person that likes to read hard copies of materials so I bought this for that reason. If you know nothing about QR codes or how to market them then please by all means buy this book. But if your a computer research junkie then just search and read through several QR and entrepreneur sites for tips and tricks.

Great read for reluctant adopters.

Within 15 minutes of starting to read Joe's book, I, a late adopter if there ever was one, had downloaded a reader to my phone and my iPad, connected with one QR (Joe's own website), and began to see how QR Codes might be useful. I write about nonprofit organizations so wanted to get up to speed about how nonprofits can use QR Codes for promotion, fundraising, volunteer work, etc. I wasn't disappointed. Joe's background is in nonprofit so he included plenty of examples of how QR Codes fit into charitable work. I highly recommend the book...a plus is that it is a quick read.

About the Author
Ken Black is currently Professor of Decision Sciences in the School of Business and Public Administration at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts and raised in Missouri, he earned a Bachelor's degree in mathematics from Graceland College, a Master's degree in math education from the University of Texas at El Paso, a Ph.D. in business administration in management science, and a Ph.D. in educational research from the University of North Texas.

Since joining the faculty in 1979, Professor Black has taught all levels of statistics courses, forecasting, management science, market research, and production/operations management. He published fifteen journal articles and over twenty professional papers, as well as two textbooks: Business Statistics: An Introductory Course and Business Statistics: Contemporary Decision Making. Black has consulted for many different companies, including Aetna, City of Houston, NYLCare, At&T, Johnson Space Center, Southwest Information resource, Connect Corporation, and Eagle Engineering.

The book itself is great. What I didn't like was that it didn't ...

The book itself is great. What I didn't like was that it didn't come with WileyPLUS access. It _does_ include an access card with a scratch-off code that you THINK is going to be WileyPLUS access, but all it gives you is a couple of Excel files you can download and play with.

Why does that matter? Well, the book is really good, but it's meant to be read in tandem with the lectures in WileyPLUS, so you can develop a stronger understanding of sampling or the Student's T-Test or Type II Errors. Wiley does not offer a way for you to buy the PLUS access separately, so if you really want the full experience, you'll have to shell out the full $180 price of the book just to get the card. I bought via Amazon to save $50+. Are the WileyPLUS lectures worth it? I wouldn't know since both Amazon and Wiley gave me the runaround and I'm not willing to spend all that money.

This is a Binder Version of the text

I was pleasantly surprised to find a binder version of the book even though it said it on the title...I did not know some text books came in such format. Putting it in the binder works better for me because I can carry just the pages I need to read and add notes as needed between text pages instead of carrying around the heavy textbook. Plus, it was much cheaper!

The only downside would be the fact that each sheet of paper is quite thin. Other than that, I am happy with it.

easily susceptible to wrinkling/tearing

While I knew that I was ordering a binder ready version of this book, I would have preferred the actual bound book version of this, but it was not offered by Amazon. As such, the book pages are thinner than the pages of a usual book, easily susceptible to wrinkling/tearing. As far as the delivery of the book, I have no issues with that--delivered as promised.

A long out of print WWII Children's Classic

World War II Royal Air Force folklore about the mischievous Gremlins who caused mechanical malfunctions in airplanes and how to make friends with them. A wonderful children's story by Roald Dahl. Disney bought the rights but unfortunately never produced the movie. Now you don't have to spend $200 to get a copy, because the original copyright problems between Disney and the British Air Ministry have been cleared up and it has finally been reprinted with all of the original artwork. A true Children's Classic.

The Gremlins

I grew up with this book and have always had a soft spot for it. Roald Dahl has given us some pretty fantastic stories and this, being his first, is very special. The setting of the Second World War and the problems of the RAF fighter pilots is given a unique twist by using these fictional beings. Their antics are both humorous and serious. "War is hell" but with a twisted smile here. Dahl has kept his "twist" through out most of his writings so it's fun to see the beginning. The Disney characters are timely and representative of the story, I'm especially fond of the Fifinellas with their curly horns and demure manner. The Widgets are cute too. The book is wonderful for both children and adults. Enjoy!!

About the Author
James Herriot (1916-1995) was the bestselling author of memoirs including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, The Lord God Made Them All, and Every Living Thing. At age 23, Herriot qualified for veterinary practice with the Glasgow Veterinary College, and moved to the town of Thirsk in Yorkshire to work in a rural practice. He would live in, work in, and write about the region for the rest of his life. Though he dreamed for years of writing a book, his veterinary work and his family kept him busy, and he did not start writing until the age of 50. In 1979, he was awarded the title Order of the British Empire (OBE). His veterinary practice in Yorkshire, England, is now tended by his son, Jim Wight.

All You Expect from Herriot

This is everything you expect from a Herriot book. I think this one has been the best of the three, partly because I enjoyed the mix of Yorkshire memories with RAF memories. This one definitely has the biggest tear-jerker for cat people with the story about a feral cat named Debbie (which has a bittersweet, hopeful ending that still makes me cry thinking about it), balanced with the story of Oscar, the cat who liked to go to meetings.

There was one story that I thought I had already read, but it may have been in one of the previews.

I also enjoyed him finally having a gotcha moment or two, instead of always being the victim of them.

Well worth getting, especially if Amazon is running a deal on it.

I have all of Herriot"s books and have spent many a happy hour with them. I have also read several of the books, created by illustrating individual stories from Herriot"s books and sold for children.My students loved them and read them over and over with obvious delight,
It is so refreshing to read something uplifting and family-oriented these days

Talk about a culture shock, I just finished a review of "The Old Breed At Peleliu and Okinawa"
and now James Herriot and his time as a vet..
The good thing about the Kindle I have these books close by...
Apparently we cannot have the life Herriot lived, unless we have men Like Sledge to
make it possible..
I recommend all of Herriots books, makes Sledge and other combat veterans sacrifices
worth while..

Jerrie Marcus Smith, the oldest daughter of Stanley Marcus, is a graduate of Smith College and has been an art consultant for many years. Her first book, Things As They Are At Nonesuch Farm, was privately printed in 2007.

Allison V. Smith, Stanley Marcus's granddaughter, is a freelance photographer whose work has appeared in Elle, Spirit, and People. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and private collections in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Austin.

A Clear Eye

As a young man, Stanley Marcus wanted to be a photographer; instead, he went into the family business and transformed a Texas department store into a symbol of international style. It goes without saying that the photographs he took thoughout his life are accomplished: elegantly composed and perceptive. But they are more than that. They also reveal the qualities of his heart: his generous capacity for affection, his democratic pleasure in all kinds of human experience, his ability to capture tenderness in faces and in postures. The result reflects his expansive spirit; it is also a testament to the grace and affection he passed on to his daughter and granddaughter, who edited the photographs. They have distilled decades of photographs into a visual memoir of an extraordinary life.

His world through the eyes of a remarkable man

This book was a gift in at least three ways. First, it was a birthday gift from good friends. Second, it was a gift to give me a window into the world of the photographer, Mr. Stanley Marcus, a remarkable man. And third, it is a gift to the world of a view into the life and friends of this great man.

Allison V. Smith, Mr. Stanley's granddaughter, and herself a gifted photographer has (together with her mother) done a great service by publishing this wonderful collection of photographs. The reader/viewer can travel the world vicariously through the eye of Mr. Stanley and the lens of his camera.

Too bad Amazon only allows five stars.

A keepsake book!

Every time I sit down with this book I see something new. It's like a trip back in time in every sense. I admire the elegant women in their gloves and hats, feel transported to places around the world I yearn to see, and of course marvel at Mr. Stanley's uncanny sense of style that is captured in every single shot. I'm very grateful for this keepsake reminder of him and the legacy he left.
