About the Author
James Herriot (1916-1995) was the bestselling author of memoirs including All Creatures Great and Small, All Things Bright and Beautiful, The Lord God Made Them All, and Every Living Thing. At age 23, Herriot qualified for veterinary practice with the Glasgow Veterinary College, and moved to the town of Thirsk in Yorkshire to work in a rural practice. He would live in, work in, and write about the region for the rest of his life. Though he dreamed for years of writing a book, his veterinary work and his family kept him busy, and he did not start writing until the age of 50. In 1979, he was awarded the title Order of the British Empire (OBE). His veterinary practice in Yorkshire, England, is now tended by his son, Jim Wight.

All You Expect from Herriot

This is everything you expect from a Herriot book. I think this one has been the best of the three, partly because I enjoyed the mix of Yorkshire memories with RAF memories. This one definitely has the biggest tear-jerker for cat people with the story about a feral cat named Debbie (which has a bittersweet, hopeful ending that still makes me cry thinking about it), balanced with the story of Oscar, the cat who liked to go to meetings.

There was one story that I thought I had already read, but it may have been in one of the previews.

I also enjoyed him finally having a gotcha moment or two, instead of always being the victim of them.

Well worth getting, especially if Amazon is running a deal on it.

I have all of Herriot"s books and have spent many a happy hour with them. I have also read several of the books, created by illustrating individual stories from Herriot"s books and sold for children.My students loved them and read them over and over with obvious delight,
It is so refreshing to read something uplifting and family-oriented these days

Talk about a culture shock, I just finished a review of "The Old Breed At Peleliu and Okinawa"
and now James Herriot and his time as a vet..
The good thing about the Kindle I have these books close by...
Apparently we cannot have the life Herriot lived, unless we have men Like Sledge to
make it possible..
I recommend all of Herriots books, makes Sledge and other combat veterans sacrifices
worth while..

Jerrie Marcus Smith, the oldest daughter of Stanley Marcus, is a graduate of Smith College and has been an art consultant for many years. Her first book, Things As They Are At Nonesuch Farm, was privately printed in 2007.

Allison V. Smith, Stanley Marcus's granddaughter, is a freelance photographer whose work has appeared in Elle, Spirit, and People. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; and private collections in Dallas, Los Angeles, and Austin.

A Clear Eye

As a young man, Stanley Marcus wanted to be a photographer; instead, he went into the family business and transformed a Texas department store into a symbol of international style. It goes without saying that the photographs he took thoughout his life are accomplished: elegantly composed and perceptive. But they are more than that. They also reveal the qualities of his heart: his generous capacity for affection, his democratic pleasure in all kinds of human experience, his ability to capture tenderness in faces and in postures. The result reflects his expansive spirit; it is also a testament to the grace and affection he passed on to his daughter and granddaughter, who edited the photographs. They have distilled decades of photographs into a visual memoir of an extraordinary life.

His world through the eyes of a remarkable man

This book was a gift in at least three ways. First, it was a birthday gift from good friends. Second, it was a gift to give me a window into the world of the photographer, Mr. Stanley Marcus, a remarkable man. And third, it is a gift to the world of a view into the life and friends of this great man.

Allison V. Smith, Mr. Stanley's granddaughter, and herself a gifted photographer has (together with her mother) done a great service by publishing this wonderful collection of photographs. The reader/viewer can travel the world vicariously through the eye of Mr. Stanley and the lens of his camera.

Too bad Amazon only allows five stars.

A keepsake book!

Every time I sit down with this book I see something new. It's like a trip back in time in every sense. I admire the elegant women in their gloves and hats, feel transported to places around the world I yearn to see, and of course marvel at Mr. Stanley's uncanny sense of style that is captured in every single shot. I'm very grateful for this keepsake reminder of him and the legacy he left.

A great new book by Cheryl Bradshaw...

I am a fan of Cheryl’s Sloane Monroe series so I was excited to read this new book. I was not disappointed.
The book begins 15 years in the past when Quinn and Evie first become friends. Fast forward to present times when Quinn is faced with dealing with the death of her dearest and closest friend. She makes a vow to find Evie’s killer… no matter what it takes.
The story follows Quinn as she returns home… she is faced with her fractured relationships with her sister, Astrid and with her old boyfriend, Bo, who is now a detective working on the case as well as dealing with Evie’s eccentric grandmother, Ruby. Twists and turns keep the reader guessing until the end when the truth is revealed.
I liked the book… it was well written and kept my interest. I like mysteries so I had my own ideas as to whom the murderer might be and I enjoyed following Quinn’s search for justice. It was a quick read.. and one you will want to keep reading just to see how it ends. The book ends in a rather open ended way so I was left to wonder if more books are planned for Quinn.

A page turning must read. Read it in 2 days!!

This book was awesome!! I'm not a fast reader & I can usually read a couple chapters then put the book down. I devoured this book in 2 days. This book kept me guessing all the way through. I thought I had the killer figured out a couple different times. But I found out I was wrong at the end. I never guessed the killer till I was told. Definitely a page turner for me. I loved the way the characters were intertwined with each other & there is a romance also. Quinn & Bo were great & even had some parts that brought a smile or chuckle. But the mystery was something only Cheryl Bradshaw could master!! If your looking for a book you can sink your teeth into & enjoy to the very last page. This is the one!!

Great Mystery

I’m a fan of Cheryl Bradshaw’s Sloane Monroe series and was excited to read this stand alone. This too was a great book with characters that were very likable and well developed. The characters were a bit reminiscent of one of Bradshaw’s other books I’d recently read, but the plot was like nothing she’s written before. Quinn Montgomery wakes from an accident after hearing the news of her best friend’s death. Finding that it was actually a murder, she makes a promise to herself to find out who the killer is and make them pay. Quinn returns home to her small town to investigate and finds many distractions in her old friends, her parents, and her estranged sister, which only add to the complications of finding her best friend’s killer. This book had me suspecting every person in the tiny town until the killer was finally revealed in a murderous showdown. Another suspenseful book by Bradshaw.

Helped me through the Grieving Process

When I lost my father a few years ago, Mercy Hospice gave me a copy of the book that this Journal is intended to accompany, "Understanding Your Grief". The book is not intended as a fast read, but rather a contemplative read - one that this journal certainly helps you to get through. I read the book one chapter at a time - and it certainly helped me through the grieving process. While I didn't have this journal/ workbook when I read the book, I recommend that this journal be purchased along with "Understanding Your Grief" and used in conjunction with it

A great read for those who are ready to face some of the feelings that result from grievous losses.

Very good for those dealing with chronic grief. May be better for dealing with losses that are not acute - emotions are so raw at that time, and readers may not be open to the positive "you can get through it" message of the book, when they are overwhelmed with feelings that are so hopeless & dark.

This is an excellent book. As a Minister and Grief Counselor, I have found it a very helpful tool. It is an easy read therefore making it a good gift for grieving individuals. Because each chapter is in many ways self sustaining, it makes an excellent resource for an ongoing grief group. Individuals can begin attending at any time, and not feel as if they are entering in the middle of something. It can be used with or without its companion journaling guide. The only wish is that I would like to see the two books bundled in a less expensive package. Increased sales would more than compensate for the reduced cost.
