The Best wasn't Good Enough?

Jeanne Avery's book on astrological aspects is one of the very best books I've found that describes in REAL LANGUAGE what an aspect FEELS like.
Avery uses vivid and unforgettable examples from the lives of celebrities and people she knows or has read for. There is something about the way she relates these people describing their OWN feelings that sticks in your mind.
In my beginning days interpreting charts professionally (scarey! back in 85), I often relied on her descriptions of aspects to make my points with clients and invariably the clients were nothing less than astounded with the veracity. For the first time, I could really understand what it felt like to have Mars square Uranus when such a person in her book described it as a sugar high or a sugar addiction, the scratch that could never be itched, etc.
And I remember the Pluto Mars person in her book saying her son infuriated her so much that her husband had to hold her hands to her side to keep her from doing violence to him while she literally SHOOK WITH RAGE.
In my beginning practice, I actually had people break down in tears of gratitude when I used these analogies for them to help them understand the difficult energies they were dealing with -- they were so moved that FINALLY someone seemed to understand what they were going through.
It's a real shame this book didn't get reprinted because you can see that I found it quite invaluable. It takes awhile as a pro to build up enough case experience to have your own set of "snapshots" to use in illustrating aspects and Avery has some really, truly wonderful ones. Good illustrations of energy during a chart interpretation/reading build instant empathy with the client and that builds good rapport for anything important that is going to follow. It's part of the magic of astrology.
I would certainly recommend chasing this book down in the used section if you are considering a career in astrology.

Interesting

I enjoyed this book. I got it when it was a free read. At first the swearing put me off as there was a lot of it in the beginning, but after a while I saw that this was how these characters spoke, so got used to it. I would have liked more information about the aliens and the caves as this was intriguing. The story was a bit confusing for me when Cassie was suddenly filling a UFO with rocks to sink it into the sea. However, the story held my interest and the outcome was satisfying. I loved that there was kindness to the dog.

Small time private investigators Cassie Atwood and Kurt Desmond work out of Seaside Heights, a slum area. One day a stranger comes to town offering them forty grand to find some ancient paintings in a long forgotten cave high in the cliffs. Cassie knows where to look having grown up there. This book has plenty of action but is confusing. The first three chapters are boring, she complaining about a dog they found who smells so bad, and she gets angry at Kurt who had been her lover and won’t let him sleep her anymore.

Although the story as it proceeds begins to bring in signs of extra-terrestrials, the important secrets these ET’s brought, and it includes so many other characters and these ET signs that the reader loses sight of the motivation of everyone’s actions. Besides that a good share of the dialogue is vulgar, sexually orientated and although might be enjoyed by men, probably women would lose interest.

This is a genre, however, that would appeal to some readers.

This is an excellent book for any teacher with problem students

This book will help any teacher of any grade that has problematic students. Weather students are disruptive, being bullies, stealing, swearing, or anything else that a student might do, this book has outlined a constructive way to allow students to see what they are doing wrong and how their behavior affects everyone else. The book is about building positive relationships with the whole class in mind and is an easy read that would be beneficial to every teacher. Instead of yelling at or simply punishing a child, this book will offer better solutions to achieving what punishment hardly ever does.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis soared to popularity in post-World War II America, as their unlikely chemistry proved successful. The two met in New York City in 1945, where Lewis, a struggling comedian, and Martin, a handsome crooner, were looking to hit the big time. This candid memoir examines the tumultuous yet productive relationship that developed between the two as they spent 10 years performing live shows and making movies. As Lewis tells it, in the early years of the duo's success, they began hanging out with movie stars and other celebrities, and life was one continuous party, with loads of money and all the booze, babes, and good times that either could ask for. But despite attempts to manage their egos and to handle the other pressures that come from living a fast life, eventually the magic began to fade and the two finally called it quits in 1956. After parting ways, both achieved great solo success: Martin becoming a member of the famous Rat Pack and Lewis a successful writer, producer, and director. Although they never really worked together again, Lewis maintains that he never stopped loving Dean Martin, and indeed this book is an adoring tribute to the man. What an eye opener!

I was enchanted with their deep relationship and I'm sure it was a very cathartic exercise for Jerry after they'd essentially broken up! Highly recommend this even if you aren't a fan.

I loved it!

This was a very interesting book. I thought it told the story of Jerry & Dean's relationship in a very thorough & enjoyable manner. Of course the reader has no choice but to believe things happened the way Jerry said they did since it was told from his perspective & Dean certainly wasn't around to rebut. But all, in all, I enjoyed the book & was very surprised at many things I learned. From Jerry's viewpoint, many times it appeared as though Dean was somewhat of an ass. And it certainly seemed as though that attitude had a lot to do with their break-up. At the same time, there was no surprise about the love between the two or certainly the love Jerry had for Dean. We will never really know for sure if Dean shared that same love for Jerry though. I would recommend this reading to anyone who wants to have a better perspective on just how this pair actually came together.

A very interesting autobiography

This is a pretty interesting book considering who wrote it. It comes off as rather candid. Jerry Lewis is clearly a man who is interested in his legacy so you have to assume that there is some fudging in here, both in the positive and negative directions. But even accounting for that bias you do get a rather nuanced picture of one of the great comedy teams of all time. If you are a fan of Martin & Lewis or even if you are interested in the life of an enigmatic human being, I would recommend this book.

Published in 1962. Old wisdom that pertains today.

This is a book published in 1962. Old wisdom? I think not. Barbara Ward captured a very important point regarding the rich nations and the poor nations. She writes that the rich nations have mastered the critical requirement of saving. Here are her words.

"Then there is another big change which alters the relationship. It is quite simply that the West has completed its 'break-through' to modernization and the emergent nations have not. Above all they have not completed the first, hard, even merciless, phase of early saving." (taken from page 34)

She goes on to advise that the West has already completed this phase and therefore makes up the majority of the "rich" nations.

If her words are true (and I believe they are), then we are no longer in the position of strength we used to hold. At 17 trillion dollars in debt, we are definitely not saving.

Brilliant Synthesis

Few people are likely to be attracted to a book written almost 50 years ago. However, Ms. Ward has brilliantly synthesized why rich nations have developed and poor nations have failed. The key to her thinking is the challenges a population faces as it struggles to survive. This view may now be revisited from a different viewpoint as emerging nations have their struggle for pre-eminance eased by the accumulated knowledge from the past.

A must read for anyone struggling with sexual sin!

Having given myself over to pornography for over a decade, I've read countless books on how to overcome in this area. I've also sought out several counsellors and groups that deal with sexual addiction. I can tell you that nothing I've read on the subject has been more impactful than this book. This book puts sin in its proper place. This is a no nonsense approach to overcoming sin in your life. Freedom is available to those who want it and this book is an awesome resource to guide you back on the right path. Check out the purity for life app as well. They have a lot of great resources.

This book is a great read. I have been dealing with a lot of things in this book. I have been blessed to know that I'm not alone. How many churches have men that are dealing with sexual sins? I dare to say all of them. The sad thing is no one wants to talk about it. I'm thankful I have a church that sees this as a has a problem that needs to be fixed. I thank God for giving me a church that willing to help me and not condemn me.

This workbook and its book have been a huge help with my struggle against pornography. This set is a perfect blend of spiritualism and practical teaching. I highly recommend this series to anyone dealing with this issue and want freedom. I've been struggling with this issue for forty plus years. Nothing has helped me till this series.

Wellington's achievements in the Peninsular War cannot be overestimated. At the outset in 1808 Napoleon and his Marshals appeared unstoppable. By the close Wellington and his Army had convincingly defeated the French and taken the war across the Pyrenees into France itself. He and his Generals had waged a hugely successful campaign both by conventional means and guerrilla warfare.

This book contains the pithy biographies of some forty senior officers who served Wellington, in the majority of cases, so ably during this six year war. Many had experience of battle prior to the Peninsular and went on to greater heights thereafter. There is a section summarizing the major engagements that this 'band of brothers' took part in.

The book is arranged in alphabetical order and each thoroughly researched entry places its subject's life in his historical and political context. The result is a highly entertaining, informative and authoritative book.

must have for Napoleonic study

A companion piece to the author's Nelson's Trafalgar Captains and Their Battles, Wellington's Peninsular War Generals & Their Battles covers the lives of forty-one of the best known divisional commanders, heads of supporting arms and services (i.e. artillery, cavalry and supply), and principal staff officers of Wellington's Army in Spain from 1808 to 1812.
The book is divided into two distinct sections, the first consisting of the biographies conveniently arranged alphabetically, and the second consisting of the battles these men fought in, arranged chronologically, beginning with the Low Countries in 1793 and ending with Waterloo in 1815. At the end of each battle entry is a list of generals in the book who participated in each. There is an Introduction wherein the author discusses the promotion system, the purchase of commissions and the importance of patronage in Georgian England.
As any reputation would pale when next to Wellington's (not to mention his own low opinion of practically everybody), a close look at these men and their careers reveals extensive active service both before and often after the war against Napoleon. Also revelatory are the facts that most of them came from or married into titled families; almost half of them were of Scottish descent; and two were Germans.
All in all, this book is informative, well written and an essential reference tool for those interested in the period.

This battle of wills is so hot! This second installment gives even more of a glimpse of what's ahead in the turbulent saga of Lillian and Trent. It definitely shows more of the selfish and overpowering sexual side of the commanding CEO, and the desperate and vulnerable side to the wildly mouthy Lillian. Even though I'm not a big fan of a story being dished out in little bites...These short serials are a really quick read and keeps me wanting more...

Trent Blackwell is one sexy beast with the ladies! Powerful, controlling and the unattainable prize for all the socialites...but all Trent's focus is on one fiery beauty...the seemingly untamable creature, Lillian Jones...

Oh my, did the sizzling sparks fly when Lillian Jones comes before the gorgeous, intimidating spectacle that is Trent Blackwell! What an interview! All of Lillian's stubborn pride rears up in full force when that insufferable, demanding CEO tried to dictate her personal life...no one squelches her independence...especially that unbelievably sexy and dominating excuse of a man...who now consumes her every thought and every secret dark desire...

Book 2 of this series is even better Oh YES

Book 2 Is even better than Book one in this series. OH yes Bella Forbes you have now got me for the entire series my dear. Lillian has made it to the interview how be it a tad bit late. She had met her match in billionaire Trent Blackwell and let the games begin. There is so much I want to say about book 2 but I can't or I will get the story line away. There is so much I can see possibly happening between these two characters and while I have no idea if Bella Forbes will take them down the patch of D/S or not man oh man how rich would it be.

Again look for the hidden jewel in this book not related to the main 2 characters. Look closely or you might miss it.
If you have Kindle Unlimited you can borrow all the books one right after the other. I was gifted book 1 and 2 for an honest review and now i am off to borrow the rest from KU

4 stars, book two is so much better than the first book!! I really loved the heat that that flowed in this book!

Wow, this book was smoking hot and so steamy. This book had so much more story to it than the first one!! I will admit I wasn’t sure if I wanted to continue with the series, but I’m glad that I did, it was so much better!!
